‘The Laws of the Higher Life’ by Annie Besant

The ideas expressed in this essay, which is described as “a subject of vital importance to the thinker, to the studious, to those who desire to serve humanity and to those who wish to help the race move forward in its evolution, try to allow religious believers to demonstrate that spirituality is not subject to natural law.

Even where man can see the chaos of nature, there is harmony; even a volcanic eruption is part of the natural process, whether sudden or slow.  Everything falls within the realm of law and is utterly ordered in its realization.

The same occurs in the spiritual world, even the apparently sudden “eruptions” of the forces of the spiritual realm, the sudden changes in the life of a man; here also the law prevails.

Although we do not understand it completely, nonetheless we are beginning to realize that in the spiritual, as in the physical universe, there is one Supreme Life with an infinite diversity of manifestations.
