Life is seen as a pilgrimage through “concentric circles” surrounding a mountain on which a temple is raised, this being the ultimate goal of the pilgrimage, and those who have ascended to the top have concluded their journey. They will remain there in order to help those who are still climbing.
It is a metaphor of a slow and weary human evolution, so much that it is not possible to understand where the pilgrims gather their strength to continue. A path that takes millions of years to travel through a succession of lives spent climbing.
A mystical explanation that reveals the path of the evolution of souls, however if one has not embraced the Eternal and has not detached oneself from the transitory things that surround it, one may not be able to go beyond even the first gate.
