Tai chi was originally created as a technique for body to body, armed or unarmed combat, but has since become a physical-spiritual practice and meditation technique (meditation in movement) that is considered very beneficial to our health.
T’ai Chi Ch’ouan is a Taoist art and practice that is designed to cultivate the body, mind and spirit in order to prevent and cure diseases, as well as to protect and strengthen health.
Calmness of spirit is achieved with this practice by associating the mind and body; through slow and gentle movements, concentration, and soft, deep breathing. This is essential for improving and maintaining health and in helping to prolong life.
The book’s author, Tew Bunnag was born in Bangkok in 1947 and began his martial arts training from an early age. He trained in Thai and Western Boxing, Karate, Tae Kwon Do and T’ai Chi Ch’ouan. After graduating from the University of Cambridge in 1968, he began his spiritual practice with Dhiravamsa, the former abbot of the Temple Buddhapadipa.
Tew Bunnag’s book is one of the most consistent and creative studies in the world of T’ai Chi Ch’ouan; a work that is set to become a classic in its field.
